I have not been so offended in ages...
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=XO6SlTUBA38
There are just so many this wrong with this add.
1) It makes babywearing mommas look like ignorant try-hards, who like the teenage girl tottering around in shoes that cause blisters and a dress so tight she can hardly breathe because she's 'sexy', wear their babies because it's 'cool' and will make them look like a 'real' mother.
2) It promotes babywearing as a painful thing to do. This is ridiculous! Even I can wear Zeke, and I have an ongoing shoulder injury and a bad back, and still comfortably tote him around in a carrier wherever I go. Babywearing when undertaken with the right advice and sling for you, (there is lots of advice out there!) is a comfortable and painless experience.
3) The add also made fun of the scientific fact that babies who are worn cry less. I cannot tell you the number of mothers I know who swear by wearing their baby in any form of carrier as a way to keep their bub close, comfortable and peaceful. Nothing turns my fussy, overtired little boy into a mellow baby like popping him in the sling and doing a few laps of the house.
4) The makers of the add also mock the bonding experience that can be had by babywearing. When you wear your baby, you are deliciously close to their soft skin, their warmth is pressed right against your heart (exactly where your baby belongs!), and every step you take you can breathe in that beautiful, sweet, milky, one-of-a-kind 'baby' scent that belongs only to your child... and even while they're asleep your baby will recognise your heartbeat, scent and warmth as a sense of comfort and protection. How is that not a wonderful way to bond with your baby?
I really am disgusted and offended by this, I cannot believe how ignorant the makers of this add are.
When I became pregnant , one of the things I looked forward to most was wearing my child... I researched all the options, and made a choice of carrier based on factors that affect me, and I have found that wearing Zeke is a happy, enjoyable and above all comfortable experience. I love having him close to me when I am out walking or shopping, and he appears to really enjoy being close to me and having a great view of the day's proceedings! Not to mention it keeps my hands free to get what I need to do finished.
For those who choose it babywearing is a win/win situation for the wearer and the child!
All you baby-wearing mothers out there who also find this add rude, offensive or ignorant, please drop by the Motrin website when it is up and running again, and let them know what you think. I will certainly be giving them my two cents!

Random Update
FINALLY the weather is cooling down. I have been dying over the last few days. Seriously, all I've managed to do around here is thanks to wearing a wet t-shirt. (Which now has chocolate pudding stains on it... yummy... well the pudding was, not the stains)
Had a good night on Friday though, went out and saw Fiona Boyes performing at Bell's Tavern. She rocked as always. The double bass player (from the US) apparently had discovered Bundaberg Rum during his time over here, and from the sounds had enjoyed a few before the show too! Can't fault his taste though. Bundaberg truly does rock!
I've been so busy mostly with just preparing for baby stuff, I haven't had much of a non baby-centric life really. I am planning to get my hair cut again in non-baby news, but nothing dramatic, just a trim.
I've been meaning to write a post about Melbourne weather, public transport, its commuters and their umbrellas for the last while now, but I never seem to get around to it, specially with the hot weather, making umbrellas quite unnecessary. Not to mention preggo brain! (It is a real syndrome people... I am even more vague than I used to be!)
Had a bit of an odd dream last night. I can only blame it on hormones. However, it made me send a message to someone who I have not talked to in quite some time, hopefully they will reply.
Oh, my aunt is coming down tomorrow! (That's the main reason I've been busy cleaning like mad... it would be nice if the place didn't look like a rubbish tip!) She's coming to bring the baby's bed, but it will be the first time she's seen this new place, so it would be good if the place is relatively clean and tidy.
YAY! The wind is picking up, looks like rain. Somehow it feels cozier indoors when it's raining outside. Plus the cooler weather means I can walk again, and there are so many benefits to that... good for me, good for bub, and other than that it just plain gets me out of the house, and anything that means I don't spend forever on Neopets or something has to be good!
Anyhoos Neighbours is on, and Ryan won't be far away with the rest of the things I need for food. Ciao!

Just a quickie
Briefly, I've finished work and now spend my days setting up for the baby! So really, there isn't always a whole lot to post about. No one needs a run down on my domestic itinerary do they?
Anyhows it's bedtime for me. Check the baby blog for more regular updates!

Random Update
So, I have pfficially handed in my resignation at work! I only have till March 20th now! (6 weeks basically) and I am counting the days till I have some time to myself. Mostly to potter around and prepare for bubs, but I think I will spend the first week totally vegging out and sleeping.
Oh, speaking of vegging, that reminds me of my soup... better yank the pot out of the freezer and defrost it so I can freeze it in more manageable portions... brb
So yeah, I made a giant pot of soup on the weekend, intending to freeze it in plastic containers for winter so that I don't have to cook after looking after a screaming baby all day, and so I stop spending money on take away. However I didn't have the plastic containers! (I have bought like 20 since we moved in and I have already lost/broken/thrown out all of them. )
Thus, needing to put the soup somewhere it wouldn't go off, I had to freeze it, but lacking containers, I put the whole pot in the freezer. Yeah, freezing 5litres of soup in a solid block is smart! Now, I have a rock solid lump on the stove slowly defrosting.
Oh, also we currently have no washing machine! There was one that the last tenants left which worked when we moved in, so we didn't bother buying one right away, but now it's kicked the bucket. At least I'll get a nice shiny washer/dryer unit to replace it at some point though! Washing clothes in the laundry trough sucks ass though. It's not that we can't afford it, we just really haven't had much time or have been too tired lately to go looking for a new one. But with the rain being what it is, and running rapidly out of things to wear I'm really pushing to get one this weekend.
Hmm... I'm sure I actually meant to post something here when I started this, as in something of relevance, but I have totally forgotten what it was! I've told you my work news, which is pretty big really, and I am quite exciting about it, but I can't help but think that there was something else I wanted to share. Gah... forgive me guys, I am pregnant!
Just checked the soup again, the pot is still cold! This is going to take quite some time. I think I will have a shower and leave it for a while. Who knows, I might remember what it was I wanted to share, and two posts in one day would be nothing short of a record for me!

Baby bump pic!
Well, would you look at that! Miranda isn't freaking skinny anymore! Thanks to Cherie for taking a pic of the bump for me :)
Well, the long weekend was good. Went to my aunties, and obtained some baby gear, we need to get the bassinette and cot down though, and they don't fit in the Skyline... but I can't wait to have lots of little bitty things hanging around!
Oh, I don't know if I mentioned, but I also got one of the appliances I have long dreamt of... a chest freezer! Sounds corny and shit yeah, but if you know how much I cook, you'll understand! Plus living as close to some great markets as I do, the urge to buy copious amounts of cheap meat is overwhelming, and now if I do succumb, I can actually freeze it instead of having it all go off!
Oh, and in other news, I am officially resigning from work as of March 20! How can this suck and rock at the same time? So I have 7 weeks of work left, I am already counting the days!
Bonus, I just found half a pack of M&Ms I thought I'd finished earlier this evening! My world just got even better. Combine that with listening to MeatLoaf, and knowing it's the weekend, I am very content!
I'm sure there's something else I meant to share, but for the life of me I can't remember, pregnancy brain is a frustrating condition!
Have a good weekend though folks!

Long Weekend!
We are going to visit my grandmother and aunt etc tomorrow to scope out all of Ab's old baby stuff. We are definitely taking the cot and the bassinette, but I haven't seen anything else of what she has left over from Phee, Boo and Gus. However I'm sure it will all come in useful!
I especially can't wait to see how much my cousins have grown, I saw the boys in November, but Phee was on a school camp then. I mean it's only been a couple of months, but those kids are like weeds, especially the two boys!
Oh, I also have a massive new teddy bear! His name is Arthur, he's bright pink and like 10ft tall! Well, not 10ft, but he is actually taller than me and I fall over backward trying to pick him up. Fungus and Jay bought him home from the hard rubbish actually, but he was all wrapped in plastic and is brand new. Right now he is sitting in the corner of our bedroom and I use him as a chair, he is that big I can actually sit ON him and be properly supported. I love my teddy!
Well, off to see my family and watch the boys put a new exhaust on Fungus's skyline... thrilling!
Enjoy your weekend!

Late-night TUI (not really)
At the moment I am busy watching Drawn Together (quote possibly THE most politically incorrect show that I have EVER EVER seen) randomly net surfing and have just finished cooking some awesome mince to go underneath some even cooler nachos (if Fungus and Jay ever get around to constructing them... lazy assholes!)
Well, I survived my first week back at work after 2 weeks off, which other really didn't rock... mostly due to the heat. The factory heats up like an oven. But I did miss the boys there, they do make me laugh pretty damned hard!
I swear this baby is making the warm weather feel even hotter, if it weren't for water restrictions I would spend forever under the shower trying to stay cool! It has been pretty hot over the last few nights... but who needs a weather report?
Oh, the digital camera ate its own head or something, totally not working. Hopefully we can get it repaired. (The camera shop was on holidays but I think they open again on Monday) It's a bloody good camera, so if it's rooted replacing it will mean a) lots of money or b) a less awesome camera. This upsets me immensely, I enjoy playing with the camera and I have a new house that I want to Flickr all over the place... not to mention the baby bump! (Yes, Miranda finally looks less like a goal post... and more like a goal post that swallowed a bowling ball!)
I finally got my Christmas pressy from Ryan last week too (shipping took a while) he got me a Nintendo DS... but no games. Now I need to buy some games otherwise all I have is an expensive electronic calendar. (I got him a shirt, a lighter and the box set of the Pirates of the Carribean movies!) However it is hard to decide what games I want... I mean Nintendogz looks soooo cute, but would I really play it? Those brain training ones look fun though, as does the DS version of Zelda... I loved it on the SNES (yes I am THAT much of a geek!)
Hmmm, it's almost 12.30. I should probably sleep being as I am tired, but there are still NO nachos, even though I made the mince for them 1/2 an hour ago and I do want some nachos. Bah... I'll wake up like 4 or 5 times anyways, who am I kidding, at least if I'm totally exhausted it should probably be only once or twice.
I just realised I used 'should probably' twice in the last paragraph. Either I am pretty tired, or maybe I just talk the same a lot. If I had the energy I would go through this blog and see if there are any other repeated phrases.
Right... analysing my writing style to the point of finding recurring patterns in my sentence structure it's totally time I went to bed, or at least stopped writing!
Night all!
Love Miranda xoxo

For everyone who doesn't know yet...
So the news is pretty much out, but I figure there's still a few of you who haven't caught on yet.... and I'm trying VERY hard to think of an awesome way to do it, but I lack a scanner, which is what I really wanted so I'm just gonna give this a go and hope it works...
This is the baby talking not me, I'm considerably taller than 10 inches... and yes it kicks plenty! My due date is May 19... so here's an early warning that I will randomly dissapear offline for some time around then.
Well... now that the 'big' news is out of the way let's move onto the rest of everything that's happened while I've been away. We got our own place, as in our names are on the lease and no one else, it's actually just ours! Which is absolutely awesome when we get home and are tired and cranky, we don't have to stress out about upsetting housemates... oh and the best part is no one minds (expect me) if I forget the dishes.
I will try and keep everyone a little more updated on my life now that we have net again, and try not to get too baby-centric in my posts, although that is hard... 99% of my thoughts at the moment are somehow related to this awesome little being.
Catch up soon!
Love, Miranda xoxo
